On the evening of Wednesday September 21st 2016, a gathering of 60-70 folks turned up for the launch of Greta von Gerbil & Her Really Large Lexicon at Orange Peel bar in Lan Kwai Fong, Hong Kong. Orange Peel is also the home of Peel Street Poetry, Hong Kong’s only weekly poetry event. They have a stage, a grand piano, several microphones and a nice wide seating area.
A group of six poets and performers – Daniel Levia, Keisha Siriboe, Peter Kennedy, Joe Holroyd, Nashua Gallagher and Angus Gallagher – kindly offered to play characters from the new book, and so after being with the script for a couple of weeks, we met up a half hour before the event to run through our parts. The result? There were a couple of minor errors made in the reading, which isn’t bad given we did only one full group rehearsal. But generally much of the story’s humour was brought to life by everybody’s wacky ‘rodent’ voices. The evidence is in the telling, and so here’s the video. That’s me on the right as narrator.
